Hi there! My name is Kimberly Meyer. I am currently in my 3rd round of graduate school studying to be a grief counselor with my ultimate goal being to work with children and teenagers who have lost a sibling or parent.

Back on November 18, 2013, my life suddenly changed when I got a phone call from my Dad telling me that my older brother was killed riding home on his bike in Brooklyn. There are days when I say that when I still can't believe that is my reality. Then 15 months later, on February 8, 2015, I got another phone call that shattered my world. This call was from a nurse from the assisted living home my mom had recently moved to. She called me to tell me that my mom died in her sleep.

These dual deaths set me on a career path to reach out to others who have experienced similar awful tragedies. The support I found from both my grief counselor, Jennifer Abcug, and the NYC chapter of the Compassionate Friends Sibling Support Group kept me alive and functioning to get to a place where I felt like I can help others with their pain.

I specifically would like to use bibliotherapy because I have always been a huge reader of books. When life has presented me with mountains to climb, my first line of attack is to hit the books. Books (both fiction and non-fiction) have helped me through the never-ending challenges of life. Books on grief made me realize I was not alone and that my feelings and thoughts were normal, instead of crazy. I want to help you realize that, too.
